Weight Matters

Love your body at any size. Yes and amen.

It saddens me to hear of people who’ve equated their size with their value as a person. Your weight is only a measure of your body against gravity. It doesn’t tell about your kindness, generosity, empathy, helpfulness, creativity, intelligence, love, et cetera.

But unfortunately, that’s not where the story ends. Weight is tied intricately to our health.

Many health issues are linked with overweight and obesity: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, certain cancers, stroke, fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis.

And there are the intangibles for many (though not all): reduced mobility, lowered confidence, less energy, feeling self-conscious during intimacy, clothing that doesn’t fit properly.

And here’s a kicker: research has shown that vaccines are less effective in obese individuals (see here and here, for example). This one is especially pertinent in light of our current health crisis around the world.

So in one sense, weight doesn’t matter. You can love your body at any size, exude confidence, enjoy exercising and have satisfying relationships. But in another very real sense, weight does matter because the more weight we’re carrying, the harder it is on our bodies.

No shame, girl. NO shame.

Know that it’s never too late to start. What we do toward our health matters. Every little step we take, every act of loving and respecting our bodies and nourishing them well, counts.

I want to let you know about the Fast Track Your Health intensive course I’ve just created. This will be an online group class with other like-minded ladies. It starts September 3, 2020.

In this class, we’ll be supporting each other to put healthy habits into place, and examining the mindsets to support our desires. Expect to drop a few pounds, gain energy, tame your stress, and boost your all-important immune system (really important given the current world health crisis).

Expect also to enjoy the rich community that comes from partnering with other women!
