We all know exercise is good for us and makes us feel great. It strengthens our immune system, builds muscle, improves balance, helps release toxins, aids digestion, protects the heart, makes us feel great and look younger, blah, blah, blah…
But knowing does not always translate into doing. Information doesn’t necessarily equal transformation.
All day today I had it on my mind that I wanted to get some kind of exercise, but I had no plan put in place. The day got busy, life happened, and before I knew it, evening had struck and I hadn’t gotten any significant movement, as I had hoped.
Hoped. Yeah, since when has that worked for anything?
- “I hope I can get some exercise.”
- “I hope I can lose a few pounds.”
- “I hope I can run a 10K someday.”
- “I hope I can get healthy habits put in place soon.”
Here’s a great quote that has saved me from myself over and over:
“If it’s not on the calendar, it doesn’t exist.”
Lots of smart people have said it, and now I’m passing it on to you.
You know this. We don’t just stumble into getting things accomplished. We can’t sit around and gaze at our navels and wait for inspiration to strike. We must be proactive because mindless stuff (social media, for me) has a way of expanding to fill unaccounted for time.
You feelin’ me?
If you’ve got something you’re wanting to accomplish – whether it’s exercise, meal prep for the week, tackle some projects around the house – you must block out time on your calendar to get them done.
So this evening I took charge of time and scheduled out things that needed to happen before I head to bed. And exercise was one of those things I deemed a priority. On a scrap of paper – not a fancy planner – I outlined how much time I needed for each task (clean the kitchen, bag up some stuff for a thrift shop donation, organize mail/bills, exercise, write this blog).
And then… I did them! Not sexy, not clever, not Instagram-worthy. But DONE.
What about you?
What things are you “hoping” to accomplish?
If getting your health back on track is one of those things, let’s chat. Let’s put it on the calendar, right?! I love helping women take charge of their well-being!
